Fred was a hardworking, humble, and devoted man who poured his heart into everything he did. Although he never sought attention or recognition, his life made an unforgettable impact on countless people. A natural mentor, he became a father figure to many young men throughout the years, offering guidance, wisdom, and steady support whenever it was needed.
A true sports enthusiast, Fred loved cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and his beloved K-State Wildcats. He enjoyed quiet days spent fishing and found great joy and strength in his faith. Above all else, Fred loved the Lord, and that love shaped the way he lived—full of kindness, integrity, and compassion.
Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Corine, his mother Annie Horton, his son Shelby Ross (Melissa), his granddaughter Tasia Ross, and all of “his boys,” each of whom held a special place in his heart, sister-in-law Elizabeth Stemmons, and nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father William Horton, and by Raymond Horton and Bill Horton.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Garfield Shelter in Topeka. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a life lived with humility, devotion, and love.
