Born in Sibley, Missouri, on February 23, 1943, to Fred Davis and Mary Helen (Hontz) Davis. After his mother remarried, he was raised by Ernest Borgman- the man who would have a profound influence on the person he became.
Fred was a proud graduate of Fort Osage High School, Class of 1961. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until 1966.
On November 27, 1966, Fred married the love of his life, Patricia Writesman. Through his marriage to Patricia, Fred gained a daughter, Gale. Later, Fred and Patricia welcome their son Mike - his pride and joy. Fred was a devoted husband and father, whose family was the center of his life and will be greatly missed.
Fred was a man of many talents, skills who possessed a strong work ethic. Throughout his career he worked at Western Electric, M.F.A, Standard Oil and Lake City Ammunition Plant. He was never afraid of hard work or of learning something new. Eventually, Fred decided to put his skills and knowledge to work for himself and become his own boss, founding Davis Trucking.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his son, Mike Davis; and his stepdaughter Gale O’Dell. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Anson; his half-sisters Irene Johnson, Kate Davis, Nancy Summers and Laura Galvin; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Branaman, Ruby Snider and Leila (Steve) Effertz along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends. Each of their lives was made better by knowing and loving him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Francie and Barbara; his son-in-law, Jimmy; his daughter-in-law, Lori; and two nephews, Mark and Dale.
Fred never met a stranger and was happiest when he was surrounded by friends and family. Sharing stories, laughing and making memories. He had a way of making people feel welcome and valued. We will miss his voice, his advice, his opinions, his stories, his humor and simply knowing he was there. Fred was the family patriarch, a protector, a supporter and a friend. His presence brought comfort and strength to those he loved, and his memory will forever remain a cherished part of their lives.
His beloved wife, Patricia, and their son, Mike will miss him more than words can ever express. After nearly 60 years of marriage, Patricia not only lost her husband, but her best friend. Mike has lost his dad, his greatest support and the man whose pride in him was always unmistakable. They will carry his love and his memory with them every day for the rest of their lives.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, there will be no services. True to his personality, Fred said that if he couldn’t be there to visit, he didn’t want anyone gathering.
