Sunny attended Fort Madison High School and graduated with the class of 1962.
Upon graduation, Sunny joined the Air Force. During his career, he obtained a degree in mid-management and held budget positions at various Air Force bases throughout the world. After only 17 years of service, Sunny achieved the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Sunny retired from the Air Force in 1985 after 22 years of service. After retirement, he furthered his education by obtaining both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Sunny then worked as a civilian contractor with the Department of Defense as an auditor. He retired again in 2002 after 16 years of civilian contract service.
Sunny married his first love, Anna Catherine Karczmarczyk (Nonnie), on June 12, 1964 in Burlington, Iowa. They welcomed two sons, Edwin Dallas II (Dallas) and Daniel Christopher. After 37 years of marriage, Nonnie passed away in 2001. Sunny then relocated to the Midwest in 2002 where he met and married Mindy McCorkle and welcomed her two sons, Geoffrey David and Andrew Douglas McCorkle.
He spent his retirement years with Mindy traveling to many places around the world. He completed or nearly completed many items on his bucket list, including visiting 13 countries, swimming in 7 oceans, visiting all 50 states and seeing baseball games in nearly all the major league stadiums.
Sunny loved roller coasters, zip lines, playing cards and watching old westerns, especially John Wayne western movies. He served as a deacon in the Community of Christ Church. He had a heart for animals, a love of baseball especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and gave to various other charities.
Like a good western, Sunny passed away at high noon on Monday, March 20, 2023.
He is survived by his wife, Mindy, sons, Dallas and Daniel (Susan) Day, and bonus sons Geoffrey (Crystal) and Andrew McCorkle, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grand child, his sister, Cyndra Savage, and numerous nieces and nephews.
