When he was two years old the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where his mother had grown up. Doug spent the rest of his life in Kansas City. Graduating from Westport H.S. in 1966, Doug earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from UMKC in 1971.
He worked for Kansas City Parks and Recreation and became a real estate agent for several years. Since about 1984 Doug was self-employed in home repair. In 1983 he was married to Frances Nesmith.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother and sister who died as children. He is survived by his wife and several cousins. He loved history, repairing houses, his cats, his friends, and his family.
A memorial service will be held at HJ Community Center, 6425 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO on October 20, 2023, from 11:00 to 1:00. Please come by and share your memories.
