Dominic was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. At 18, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Navy as a Seabee (Construction Battalion) during the Korean War.
After his honorable discharge, Dominic returned home to marry the love of his life, Mary Hornung, start their family and continue his education. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and later moved to Kansas City, where he began a long and successful career in information technology with Trans World Airlines (TWA). While working at TWA, he also earned a master’s degree from Kansas State University. Dominic retired in 1998.
Dominic was a devoted husband, father, and later, a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering faith. He was a lifelong Yankees fan, an active member of his parish and the Knights of Columbus. He loved the water and found peace in learning to sail, embracing the challenges of harnessing the power of nature.
He taught his family the value of hard work, loyalty, and the importance of a good Italian meal shared around a crowded table. His legacy of service, perseverance, and deep love for God and family will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Dominic is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; his children, Joanne Ciaravino, Joseph Sciole and Christine (Steve) Bush; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Dominic, Joseph, Paul, Steve Jr., Bailey, Meredith and Kyle; and five great-grandchildren, Lillian, Evelyn, Joseph, Jack and Luke. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis, and his grandson, Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W 127th St Overland Park, KS 66213. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Dominic’s memory.
