Dennis was born on June 20, 1939, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, to Gleola and Lloyd Demskey. He went on to graduate from Loyola University and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Throughout his life, Dennis called many places home, including San Diego, Honolulu, and Austin. His curiosity extended far beyond the places he lived. A true world traveler, Dennis had an appreciation for experiencing new countries, cultures, people, food, and art. Among his many interests was a particular love for Japanese art, reflecting the curiosity and appreciation for the world that remained with him throughout his life.
Professionally, Dennis built a remarkable career spanning more than four decades. He worked as both a dentist and a home builder—two very different professions that spoke to his intelligence, determination, skill, and willingness to create a life on his own terms.
Those who knew Dennis knew there were certain things he especially enjoyed: traveling the world, Japanese art, the companionship of his dog, a well-made martini, and, above all, his family. Whether he was exploring somewhere new or simply enjoying the company of the people he loved, Dennis knew how to appreciate the experiences that made life memorable.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Gleola and Lloyd Demskey.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Demskey; his sister, Sheila; his stepdaughter, Ashley Brown; his stepson, Nicholas Blackwell Sr.; and his grandsons, Nicholas Blackwell, Lucas Brown, and Mckenzy Brown.
Dennis lived 87 years filled with places traveled, homes built, people cared for, stories collected, and memories made. To those who loved him, however, his greatest legacy will not be measured by the miles he traveled or the things he accomplished, but by the place he held in their family.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
