David Glen Showalter arrived in this world on December 25, 1947 to Glen Arnold and Ruby May (Reed) Showalter and passed on August 11, 2024 at his home. Dave will be remembered as a compassionate resource for those in need. He was a good listener and encouraged those he was helping to empowered them to problem solve their situations.
Dave had a great sense of humor. He was ornery and fun loving around his friends. He did like to tease and think of a good joke to play on a friend or sister.
Dave had several hobbies that he found joy in; number one would be fishing. A trip to a favorite fishing spot gave him peace and calmness as he enjoyed the outdoors and water. There were favorite fishing buddies who would accompany him often and he would hire a fishing guide with a boat to find the best fishing spots. He would fish a variety of places: a local spot or on a bridge over a nearby river and traveling to the Ozarks with a friend and a guide. He especially treasured going to Petersburg, AK, hiring a guide and going deep-sea fishing and where perhaps his biggest prize was a 90-pound Halibut.
Dave’s past times included hiking, card games with special friends or going to a wonderful jazz concert.
Dave spent a lot of time traveling:
• Safari in Africa
• New Zealand
• England
• Egypt
• Thailand
• Jerusalem
• South America to include: Argentina, Bolivia & Peru
These places were some of the highlights but there were other places he traveled.
Dave volunteered at his church, Country Club Christian Church, River of Refuge and Social work as PRN.
He worked as a Clinical Social Worker at Social Work PRN, KC Vocational Rehab & Johnson County Mental Health Services.
Dave is survived by his sister, Marieta Wannen & brother-in-law, Rich Wannen, Cousins, Jan & Stan Skelton from CA; Karen Rice from Nickerson, KS and Larry Reed, Charles Davis, Walter Davis, and families were an important part of his life, along with cousins, Sharon, Shelley and Robin who were there in his early years.
