Clifton (Clif) Langsdale Elliott, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, in Kansas City, where he was born and raised. Clif was the son of John (Jack) M. and Kate Elliott. He graduated from Pembroke Country Day School and went on to receive his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1960. From there, he attended Northwestern University Law School, graduating in 1963 as a member of the Order of the Coif and Editorial Board of the Northwestern Law Review. Clif’s passion as a negotiator and skill as a labor and employment attorney earned him national recognition, listed for multiple years in both Best Lawyers in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
Growing up in the R.S. Elliott Arms sporting goods family, Clif developed a love for duck hunting, fishing, and long walks through the woods. His children share that many of their best memories are from time spent at the family’s hunting lodge, known to family and friends as “The Farm.” Later in life, Clif moved to Seattle, Washington with his wife and love of his life, Marjorie. There, he expanded his love for the outdoors to boating and exploring the San Juan Islands. Clif is remembered by many as charming, funny, brilliant, charitable, debonair, lyrical, and passionate.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Elliott; parents (listed above); brother John M. Elliott III; and grandson Paul Elliott Chaney. He is survived by two children from his first marriage (to Bronwyn R. Elliott): daughter Kate (Jeffrey) Chaney and son Evan (Melissa) Elliott. Other survivors include step-son Mike (Julie) Merritt, and children; and grandchildren (Evan) Dylan Schoening, Alexis Elliott, and Collin Elliott.
