Carl L. Croom of Shawnee, Ks passed away on Thursday February 20, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born on January 22, 1934 in Kansas City, Mo where he and his family lived until they moved to Kansas City, Ks.
Carl worked as a switchman/brakeman at the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years, he loved working at the railroad and developed a love for trains. He had a collection of electric trains, had watches with trains on them, he even made some cuckoo clocks where the trains would come out and go around a track and the whistle would blow.
He had a love for building beautiful intricate things like the cuckoo clocks, he built a big cuckoo clock and really loved woodworking. The love of Carl’s life was his lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks where he enjoyed getting out on the water in his boat and listening to his tapes of Loretta Lynn. He enjoyed boating, skiing and his family time down there for many years.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Croom, his sister Geraldine Roberts, his daughter Deborah Croom, his grandson Joseph Beach Jr., his grandson Tommy Adams, and his great grandson Nathan Keisling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Gerry Croom, his daughters Carla West (Larry), and Patty Brady. His grandchildren Angie Watson (Chris), Becky Beach, Chris White (Marisa), Terri Anne Pierce (Josh), and Jessica Crosslin (Jason). He has numerous great, great-great and 2 great-great-great grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss Carl very much.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Haven Baptist Church at 3430 Hutton Rd. Kansas City, Ks 66109 on Saturday March 1st, 2025 from 1pm to 3pm. You are welcome to send flowers to the church.
