Walter Karl Tillkers

January 13, 1954 – September 26, 2026
Obituary of Walter Karl Tillkers

My "Daddy-o," Walter Karl Tillkers, was born on January 13, 1954 in Fernandina Beach, FL. He passed away peacefully into paradise on September 26, 2026 after a long, but incredibly courageous, battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karlheinz and Gisela Tillkers, and his sister, Roswitha Abels Graves. Walter is survived by his "kiddo," Kristen Tillkers, his "favorite ex-wife," Linda Smith Tillkers, and his younger brother, Michael "Mike" Tillkers (Birgit). There will be no public memorial service.

My Daddy was a simple man, fiercely independent, and strong-willed. He used to love going golfing on Sunday mornings or taking the RV as a family and going camping for the weekend. Hanna Park was our favorite place to camp. We used to travel to the mountains every fall to hike at Deep Creek and watch the leaves change.

My Daddy loved to work. In his early years, he worked in the film distribution business with Warner Brothers. But for most of his life, he owned and operated his own lawn maintenance business, American Classic Lawns. His meticulous and dependable care made him a favorite among people in the Mandarin and surrounding areas. Even in his later years, when he couldn't physically handle working anymore, he never sold his truck or his equipment, with the hope that someday he'd feel up for working again. He never gave up on that hope.

My Daddy loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed sitting in his old Lazyboy recliner, with an ice cold Michelob Light, watching Judge Judy. He was proud of his home and being one of the very few people left who still lived in the neighborhood since its origin almost 50 years ago. He kept his home tidy, kept his pool clean, and kept his yard cut, even on the hardest days. He never asked for help, always insisting he could (and would!) do it himself.

My Daddy wasn't always an easy guy to get along with. He wasn't a social butterfly by any means, and mostly kept to himself. But to those who had the privilege to know and love him, he was a man full of wisdom and great stories. He was sarcastic and didn't always have a filter, which made him so incredibly funny. When given the opportunity, he could win over anyone's heart.

My Daddy didn't live out his faith, but I do know he believed Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. Sadly, he was also made to believe that belief wasn't enough. I'm so thankful I was able to remind him that there was no way he could earn his way into heaven, that knowing and trusting Jesus was enough. He paid our debt so we wouldn't have to. Now, my Daddy has been made new. His fight is over. He is at peace and he's finally home.

Rest in peace, my sweet, strong Daddy-o. You were the best Daddy a girl could ever ask for. I'm eternally grateful God gave me you.
