Vanna Barrow Peters, born in Liberty, Texas on September 10, 1932, died suddenly at home in the early morning hours of March 1st. She was 84 years young. Vanna's parents were Bryant and Creta Barrow and she was one of seven children. Vanna leaves behind her husband Robert L. Peters. They were married on November 18, 1949 and this past November they celebrated their 67th anniversary. Vanna and Bob first met at the W.L. Rose Store in Houston, Texas and they had their first kiss in the stock room. Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Susan Peters McCoy (Pat) of Fernandina Beach and Brenda Peters McNeil (Tim) of Flagler Beach, three grandchildren Sean McNeil (Kari) of Roswell, Ga., Rebekah McNeil Krahe(Denny) of Lakeland, Florida, and Gramm McCoy of Fernandina Beach, as well as three great-grandchildren, Maya McNeil, Adison Krahe, and John Asher McCoy. Vanna stayed at home to raise her two young daughters until they moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1961. Vanna worked part time at Swift Cleaners and later worked at May Cohens, where she worked her way up and was promoted to the position of Personnel Manager. Vanna and Bob eventually moved to the Arlington area and both Susan and Brenda graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1969. In 1979 Vanna and Bob literally built their own home in Sanderson, Florida and for many years farmed and made this place a safe and sacred sanctuary for their three grandchildren. After the farm became too much for them to manage they moved briefly to Panama City, Florida and then to Argyle Forrest. For the last five years Bob and Vanna have been residents at the Augustine Landing, where they have been affectionately known by residents and staff as "The Mayor and the 1st Lady of Augustine Landing," because of their warm hospitality and their work as ambassadors for the facility. Vanna was an excellent cook and her specialty was any and all things southern. She enjoyed arts and crafts, taking care of others, square dancing, sewing, keeping her home clean and spotless, and challenging Bob to make or fix anything she saw on HGTV. During the last several years she enjoyed bingo, beading, and playing Kings in the Corner and Yahtzee. Throughout her life family ALWAYS came FIRST. A memorial service to celebrate Vanna's life will be held on Saturday, March 11th at 3:00 p.m. at the Augustine Landing, 10141 Old St Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL., with Rev. Dr. Timothy McNeil officiating.
