Thomas Wesley Vickers

From a young age Tom excelled in sports and academics. After graduation from Mainland High School of Daytona Beach he went on to Daytona Beach Junior College where he attended two years. From there he went on to achieve his Masters Degree at the University of Florida and doctorate in English Education from Florida Atlantic University. After college graduation he traveled the world, chased his dreams and shared his love with countless hearts. He was an excellent golfer, writer and friend. Some of his many accomplishments include various editorial and teaching jobs, publisher of Daytona Today, as well as teacher and head golf coach at Embry Riddle University.

He spent his later years living peacefully in his home well-stocked with sweets, a couple of cats, and all you can watch TV. You could always count on Tom keeping in touch, and he would happily welcome a friend over for a visit and lunch out any day.

Til' the end he kept an upbeat, positive attitude and a sparkle in his eye, refusing to let Parkinson's Disease keep him from doing what he wanted.

Tom leaves behind one daughter, Anne Mathews (Harrison) and one grandson, Andrew Mathews as well as many loved ones and friends.

The family would like to recognize the genuine friendship of both Steve Farley and Pete Parsons. Not only did they share lifelong friendships with Tom, but their ongoing dedication, trust and coming alongside him to help navigate his last difficult year are something rarely found anymore.
