Thomas R. Holmes, 76, of Jacksonville passed away October 28, 2017 at Anam Parc at Susanna Woods. Thomas was born on September 2, 1941 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Thomas J. and Margaret Holmes. Thomas served our country with 47 years of government service which included active duty U.S. Navy, civil service, and contractor. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired as ETCS (Senior Chief Electronics Technician). He received many awards and citations over the years including the Navy and Armed Forces expeditionary ribbons and the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award, second highest for a civilian. He was an electronics instructor with extensive knowledge who taught over the years at many levels and venues. After retiring, he spent his final years traveling the world for fun and relaxation. Thomas lives on in the hearts of his spouse, Judy Hagerty Holmes, 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. A celebration of Thomas’ life will be 11a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with Full Naval Honors. Thomas was a very generous, gentle, and caring person who will be loved and remembered by many.
