Samuel Henry Ogletree

Samuel Henry Ogletree Jr , 85, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026. Born February 20th,1941 in Washington, GA, he was the son of Samuel Henry Ogletree and Anne Mathis Ogletree and brother to Gloria Ogletree Bassinger.

He is survived by his wife Gayle of 62 years; his son Samuel Todd and his wife Virginia (Emory) Ogletree; along with grandchildren Catharine Tucker, Elizabeth Bowles and Samuel Brooks Ogletree.

Sam was a true American patriot, serving his country for four years in the US Air Force. He did two tours of foreign duty in the Azores and in Vietnam.

Moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1965 , Sam and Gayle joined the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd where Sam was active with the Boy Scouts. Later they joined St Mark's Episcopal Church where Sam was a strong EYC sponsor.

A memorial service will be held a St Mark’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 26th at 10:00AM, followed by interment in the Memorial Garden with Military Honors and a reception in Leatherbury Hall.
