Roger Clayton Smythers

Roger graduated from Hillsville High School, Hillsville, Va. in 1965. He also graduated from Danville Tech, Danville, Va. in 1967 with an Associate of Art degree. Roger was a proud veteran of the US Army. He retired from Harland Check Printing after 30 years in 1999. Roger served as the Pastor of Administration at the Terry Parker Baptist Church for the last 18 years. He was still employed by the church until he lost his valiant battle with cancer.

Roger was a family man and he loved nature. He was a true servant of God that never met a stranger.

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Smythers.

He lives on in the hearts of his loving wife of 34 years, Nancy Chitty Smythers; daughter, Adrienne Miller of St. Petersburg, Fl. ; sons, Adam Smythers and Aaron Smythers of Jacksonville, Fl. ; grandchildren, Emily Miller and Brendan Miller of St. Petersburg, Fl.; sister, Mary Jo Wolfe(Randy) of Winston-Salem, NC many extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be 12noon, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Terry Parker Baptist Church, 7024 Merrill Road, Jacksonville, Fl. 32277 with Rev. Dennis Singletary, Rev. Lorenzo Rosas and Rev. Jim Robinett officiating. The family will accept friends at 10:30am until the time of service.

Roger will be laid to rest 11:30am March 2, 2018 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
