Roger Allen Benda

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Benda and Anna Benda.

Roger is survived by three sons, three daughters and two sisters; Richard Benda of Fleming Island, Florida, Brian Benda of Orange Park Florida, Ed Williamson (Benda) of San Diego California, Jeannie Atkinson (Benda) of Jacksonville Florida, Sheri Matsick (Benda) of Jacksonville Florida, Julie Smith (Benda) of Jacksonville Florida, Dorothy Larson (Lonnie) of Port Orange, Florida and Nancy Dockendorf (James) of Somonauk, Illinois; 11grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Roger was born in Sandwich, Illinois on February 28, 1939. Roger valued his time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed many hobbies including, fishing, gardening, cooking on the grill, walking on the beach with his dog “Bo”, watching hockey, NASCAR, Gator football and his beloved Chicago White Sox. Roger retired in Orange Park and later settled in the Jacksonville area after a long distinguished service with the United States Navy and Civil Service.

His funeral will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218 on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11am. Roger will be laid to rest next to the many brave men and women who have proudly served their country in the U.S. Armed Services. In honor of Roger’s patriotism the family asks that attendees wear something Red or White or Blue or any combination to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. The family of Roger wishes to thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers.
