Robert L. Peters, 92, son of Franz and Katherine Peters, passed away on December 10, 2018 after a brief illness. Bob’s wife of 67 years, Vanna Barrow Peters, had predeceased him. Bob was a native of Jacksonville and attended Andrew Jackson High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served as a Sonar 1st Class on the U.S.S. Brough, a destroyer escort. After being discharged Bob moved to Houston, Texas where he met Vanna and they married on November 18th, 1949. They had two daughters, Susan Peters McCoy (Pat) of Fernandina Beach and Brenda Peters McNeil (Tim) of Daytona Beach, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bob, Vanna, Susan, and Brenda moved from Houston to Jacksonville in 1959. Bob was a former employee of Capital Concrete where he worked as a dispatcher and retired from Maxwell House Coffee where he worked for 18 years. Bob and Vanna built a home in Sanderson Florida in 1980 where they farmed for many years and created warm, loving, and lasting memories for their three grandchildren, Sean McNeil, Rebekah McNeil Krahe, and Gramm McCoy. After the farm became more work than fun they moved briefly to Panama City Beach and then back to the Jacksonville area in Argyle Forrest. In 2011 they sold their home and moved to a congregate care retirement facility where Bob and Vanna were affectionately known as the Mayor and First Lady of Augustine Landing.
A memorial service and celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Augustine Landing (10141 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville 32257) at 10:00 am on Friday, December 28th with Bob’s son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Timothy L. McNeil, officiating. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fl 32257.
