Milagros Garcia Manthey

Milagros, Milo or Millie as she was affectionately known, was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico in 1938 and married Miguel Maldonado (deceased) in 1952. Together they raised Marcello and Laura (Exclusa) and their children together: Miguel, Jesus, and Yvette Maldonado (Cuevas) in Elizabeth, NJ. In 1981, she married Harry Manthey and it was with Harry that Milagros truly lived, traveling to Mexico and their vacation home in the Poconos (East Stroudsburg, PA) the two shared many adventures before Harry passed away in 1994.

Milagros loved music and dancing! You would often find her in the center of the dance floor, making up her own choreography when she attended a Zumba class, or cooking her family the best arroz con pollo or arroz con dulce during the holidays! She was an assembly worker for the Singer company in the 1960s, Magnus Organ in the 1970s and The Snapple Company in the 1980’s & 1990’s, where she retired.

Milagros was predeceased by her parents Jose Garcia and Agapita Maysonet, her siblings Inocencia Vazquez Maysonet, Jose Luis, Reyes, Gilberto, Magdalena, and Ramon Garcia Maysonet. She also was predeceased by her children Miguel Angel, Laura Esther and Jesus Manuel.

Milagros was a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She became Grandma Milo and Mami to many friends and family. She is survived by her daughter Yvette Cuevas (Maldonado), grandchildren Jose and Yasmin Cuevas, and great grandchildren Jose Daniel and Emmanuel. She is also survived by her grandchildren Marcello, Juan, and Isaac Maldonado (Marcello) and great granddaughter Katelyn; Cynthia, Ricardo, and Roberto (Laura) Exclusa and great grandson Eric Anthony; and Tammy, Jesus, Milagro, William, Evita and Manny Maldonado (Jesus) and their children.

Milagros’s Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, November 12th at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jax FL 32218.
