Lewis was born in Port Arthur, Texas and was raised in the Houston area. He was the 8th of 10 children. Brothers: Carlos, Elmer, Albert, Douglas and Eugene; sisters: Mrs. Delma Cunningham, Mrs. Ira Phillips, Mrs. Alice Harrell and his only surviving sisters, Mrs. Lyra Williamson. He was the uncle to numerous nieces and nephews many of which called him “their favorite uncle”.
Mr. Worley is survived by his son Lewis Worley II and his wife Phylis of Connecticut and his daughter Leslie and her husband Bob of Ormond Beach, Fl. His pride and joy were his 5 grandchildren: Stacey, Greg, Sandra Dan and Michael. He also had 4 great-grandchildren: Amy, Matthew, Lucas and Ryan. They all lovingly called him "Texie".
Mr. Worley was employed by Pan American Airlines until he joined the United Stated Navy in 1940 and served in the pacific for the entire war. He met and married Doris during that time and they moved to Long Island, NY where he was re-hired by Pan Am. he worked there until his retirement and he and Doris were able to travel the world during that time. They then built a home in CT to be near his family. He joined a golf club and scored 6 holes in 1 during those 30 years. He had a ½ acre garden which he was very proud. He also was a self-taught carpenter/woodworker and was always ready with a hammer to help a neighbor. Both he and Doris were very active in their Episcopal Church.
In 2011, Lewis and Doris moved to Plantation Oaks in Flagler Beach. Mr. Worley loved that community and enjoyed playing poker, cribbage and bingo, and building trays and steps and other things for his neighbors. Mr. Worley lived a very active and independent life for 96 years. He touch many lives with his generosity and kindness and will be greatly missed.
