Leonardo Maxfield Martinez known to his school friends as “Leo”, of St. Johns County, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the age of 11. Leonardo was born on December 13, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida to Orlando Martinez and Crystal Cagle who felt incredibly blessed with the birth of their beautiful son.
Leonardo was a 5th grade student at Freedom Crossing Academy in St. Johns County, Florida best described by teachers, support staff, students and parents as a sweet, kind and just a joy to be around boy. Leonardo shared a special bond with many of his classmates and community members who are all heartbroken to have lost their friend.
Leonardo is preceded in death by his Guardian Angel, (sister), Sofia Krista Martinez and is survived by his loving parents Crystal Cagle and Orlando Martinez, his brothers Rolando and Almando and his sister Niya Balmir, maternal grandparents Paul and Ada Cagle, Uncle Robert and Aunts Michele and Kenia Cagle as well as his close cousins Dominick Cagle, Aaliya Bailey and Alijah Buffaloe.
Along with so many close friends mourning the loss of Leonardo’s passing, he will be especially missed by close family friends Charlie and Cynthia Muniz, Linda Chancellor, Martha Pagan, Sarah Quaile, Jennifer Crawford, Brenda Ezell- Baker, Diana Meza, Joseph and Heidi Kajy, best buddie Aiden Khazravan, close childhood friends Daniela Gillespie, Naomi and Kaegan Crawford, and favorite classmate and friend Ana Lizcano.
Leonardo loved super cars, art, nature, astrology, archeology, especially dinosaurs, and music. Leonardo loved to have beatbox sessions with his best friend Aiden, drawing and loved hugging and kissing on his momma.
The family would like to thank all family, close friends and countless community members for the care and compassion they showed and have demonstrated throughout this time.
Family and friends are invited to attend Leonardo’s Memorial and Celebration of his life at The Church of Eleven22 Mandarin Campus - 4911 Losco Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257 on Sunday, April 30th at 6:30pm. Visitation with the family will be from 4pm – 6pm.
