Larry was a native of Allegheny, New York and was born on August 8, 1940. A graduate of Paul Smith’s College and the University of Denver, in 1969 he began working for Disneyland in California and transferred for the opening of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in 1971. Larry retired from Disney in 1998 when he was awarded the great honor of having a window with his name installed on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. But more important than his career achievements, he will be most remembered for his sense of humor and his endearing grouchiness, but also his enormous capacity for love, and his devotion to his family.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gail (Whipple) Slocum, his son Brian Slocum (Alejandro Sanchez), his daughter Lindsey Slocum Penirelli, his granddaughters Lauren Dalphond and Hayley Dalphond, his grandsons Devan Dalphond and Dominick Penirelli and his brother Robert Slocum (Trudy Slocum).
The family will hold a celebration of life on March 3, 2024, at the Palm Valley Barn, 531 N Wilderness Trail, Palm Valley, FL 32082, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
