L.W. “Gus” Moran, Sr., JSO Retired, 87, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Orange Park Medical Center. L.W. was born on May 15, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John and Mary Moran. He was a man of service. Gus served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff Office after 35 years as a detective with the fugitive squad. He was a member of the Shrine Club, Scottish right, FOP, and NARC. He loved his wife and family dearly. Gus enjoyed meeting his buddies every Thursday at Hurricanes and having dinner with his daughter and family every Tuesday. He enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren, sky diving, driving his tractor and motorcycle riding. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, John L Moran, cousin, Bill Naughton and fur child, Lady LooLoo. He lives on in the hearts of his wife, Judy; children, Theresa Bass and Lawrence Moran Jr.; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; fur child, Dolly Maddie Madison; special friend, Curt Palmer and many more. A Celebration of Gus’ life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Joseph Historic Catholic Church, 4124 Lorretto Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The family requests all who attend to wear Hawaiian shirts to honor Gus. A reception will follow the service. Gus will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with Honors on a later date.
