Kenneth “Ken” Fabre, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026 at the age of 86. Born on April 27, 1938 in Kaplan Louisiana, Ken lived a life centered on faith, family, and kindness.
A lifelong and deeply faithful Catholic, Ken placed his trust in God above all else. His strong faith guided every aspect of his life, and he found great comfort in the traditions of the Catholic Church. He approached each day with a quiet confidence in God’s presence. He faithfully served as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidor for decades.
In his younger years, Ken served in the Marine Corp. He worked on the Presidential aircrafts while stationed in Washington DC and was a proud Marine until the day of his passing. Above all, Ken’s crowning achievement was his enduring love and 64-year marriage to his beloved wife, Ann. He adored his “Annie,” and their marriage stood as a beautiful example of faithfulness, devotion, and joy for multiple generations. Their love story was evident to all who knew them—a living testament to what a God-centered marriage could be. He loved the family he and Ann created together and took great joy in hosting family gatherings at his home, always cooking up some amazing bbq or a big pot of gumbo.
Ken was an incredibly friendly, caring, and kind soul who treasured his family and friends above all worldly things. Affectionately known as “Old Goat” to those closest to him, he carried a gruff exterior that masked a profoundly tender heart. His quick wit and gentle sense of humor could light up any room; he had the rare talent of making people laugh with him, never at anyone’s expense. That warm humor endeared him to everyone he met.
He spent many of his happiest days outdoors—coaching softball, hunting with family and friends, or playing golf on the greens he loved so much. Together with his wife Ann and their son, Ken proudly ran the local golf course, Riverwood in Vidor Texas, for many years. The days spent on those fairways, forging new friendships and strengthening old ones, brought him immense joy. He was also incredibly smart and was almost undefeated in trivia when the family played. Ken lived a wonderful life with love and family at its very center. He was always the first to help anyone in need, opening both his home and his heart without hesitation. Whether offering a helping hand, or a place to stay, Ken blessed everyone he knew with his time and effort. For years, his answering machine said, “Welcome to the Fabre Hotel”. Many family members and friends spent happy days at the "Fabre Hotel', always welcomed and included as family. He took great pride in raising a kind and caring family, and he was deeply pleased to see that same spirit of compassion carried forward in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
As his vision failed, his humor never did. A common occurrence at all family gatherings included Pops asking, "Who do I got here?" or "What's your front name?", up close and personal. He played golf with a 'seeing eye' friend and worked hard to continue loving life despite his fading vision.
Ken (son of Jeffery and Laura Fabre) is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ann Wagner Fabre; his sisters, Vickie Hamilton and Brenda Keziah; his children Carol Edgar and her husband David Edgar, Rose Day and her husband Luther Day, Nanett Prausa and her husband Randy Prausa, and Kenneth Fabre Jr. and his wife Rebecca Fabre; his grandchildren Nicholas Crouch, Joel Edgar, Jordan Edgar, Ashlan Segura, Alexandra Prausa, Sevren Prausa, Peyton Prausa, Chase Prausa, and Ash Fabre; and his great grandchildren Dillon Crouch, Emily Crouch, Scarlett Edgar, Truett Edgar, Thornton Edgar, and Cade Segura and many dear family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidor, Texas on June 26, 2026 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ken’s memory to Heartbeats of Hope in Vidor Texas, or simply that you take a moment to tell someone you love them or see a small need and fulfill it—something Ken did every day.
Ken will be remembered not only as a beloved “Old Goat,” but as a man whose tender heart, sharp wit, and deep faith touched countless lives. May he rest in the loving arms of Our Lord he served so faithfully.
