Karen Blair Scharps, 72, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on May 12th at home surrounded by her faithful dogs and her sister, Faith Das Gupta. She was born in Louisville, KY on May 25, 1944 to the late Donald Watt Blair and Alma Elizabeth Panke Blair. Karen was raised in Athens, GA. She graduated from the University of Georgia and received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Florida. Karen taught public school for elementary, middle, high school and special needs classes from 1968 to 2012, retiring from both Florida and Georgia schools systems. Karen taught overseas in Misawa, Japan in 1970, as well. Karen loved teaching. She also loved gardening, decorating, and her dogs. Karen liked to make life more beautiful. Karen is survived by her children, Tanya Scharps, of Jacksonville, and Elizabeth Brooks McGinn of Centerville, GA and her grandchildren, Kyleigh Scharps and Connor McGinn. She is also survived by her sisters Shari Cooper and Faith DasGupta. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in Karen's name.
