Joseph Edward Nelms Sr.

Joseph Nelms Sr. of Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away on December 18, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born on June 19, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA where he grew up. He also lived in Seaside Park, NJ until he joined the United States Navy. He retired from the United States Postal Office after 23 years of service. He was actively involved in the VFW, Elks Lodge as well as being an avid boater throughout his life. He loved spending time with friends and family and especially loved supporting and cheering on his granddaughters in all their activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Robert and Agatha Nelms. He is survived by his son, Joseph Nelms and daughter in law, Wendy Nelms; granddaughters Katelyn, Samantha and Anna Grace Nelms; his brother, Charles Robert Jr Nelms and his sister Cathy O’Neill.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, on Friday February 9, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Committal Services with Military Honors taking place at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 at 2:00 p.m.

A celebration of the life of Joseph Nelms Sr. will be at the home of Joseph Nelms Jr following the burial.
