John J. Seymour, known as “Jack” of Daytona Beach passed away on February 22, 2025 at the age of 87. Jack was born in Manhattan on August 11, 1937 to Stella and Hugh Seymour. He grew up in Yonkers, New York and graduated from Saunders Trade School. He pursued a career in construction and joined Local 543 Steamfitters' union where he worked many years until his retirement. He took additional training to become an underwater welder and worked at Indian Point.
Over the years, Jack lived in both Mahopac and Thornwood. In 2000, he moved to Daytona Beach. His final residence was at the Independent Living community at the Riviera in Holly Hill where he was welcomed as a family member by staff and residents. A special thank you to everyone at the Riviera. Your love, and unwavering support will be treasured. Jack was disciplined and always sat at Table 8, showing up thirty minutes early for all meals.
Jack was musically inclined and played the acoustic guitar. Jack joined the Marines in 1956 and was stationed at the Marine Barracks, NSA, Forte Mead, Maryland. Jack joined the Marines to become a better man. He maintained his dedication to his country and his flat top until his death. Jack enjoyed playing golf, traveling, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, listening to music, especially broadway, enjoyed both a cold beer and a keibalsa wedge as well as fine dining. Over the years, he was actively involved in the American Legion Posts in Armonk, NY and Holly Hill, Florida. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Hugh, brother Hugh Seymour and sister in-law Dianne Seymour. Jack is survived by his former wife, Lorraine Seymour and their daughters, Dorene and Michelle Seymour, his grandchildren, Justin and Olivia Hoyt, as well as nieces Leslie and Denise Seymour and nephew, Glenn Seymour.
Jack loved life and had a strong will to overcome many adversities. He wanted his life celebrated and said "you honor people when they are alive, not when they are dead." He was loved by all who met him and always said, “I’m just telling it like it is and everyday I wake up is my birthday.” No matter when you read this, please raise a glass and toast our beloved dad, Jack, because “It is 5 O’clock somewhere.”
Jack’s final wishes were to be cremated and his disposition private. There will be a memorial service on March 22nd, 2025 at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mahopac, New York at 10:00 AM.
