John G. Burrows passed away on January 4, 2024 at the age of 93 at his residence in Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by loving family members including his wife Hilda Radcliffe Burrows and son Gordon Burrows. He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Papa) and Lillian (Peggy/Nana) Burrows, his daughter, Diane Noel Burrows, sister, Barbara Taylor, and brother, Thomas Burrows; as well as the mother of his children, Joanne.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he attended Andrew Jackson High School, the University of Florida, and received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from University of Florida. He was very proud of his Gator heritage. During his career in engineering, he lived in Albany, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. In Georgia, John worked with M&M Mars and later served in a civilian role for various military bases where he received several commendations for his achievements. John spent his retirement years serving others and making meaningful contributions to many charitable causes such as Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. He loved meeting new people and delivered meals to those who could not feed themselves, often to those younger than he was. In classic John fashion, he offered lengthy warm conversations and friendship to many that he served. He enjoyed traveling around the country and appreciated the culture and sights of our great country. More recently, John spent quality time building complex model ships, cars, and various Lego projects keeping him busy and productive. He walked every day and was a model for how to live a long, healthy, productive life with meaningful contributions to society. He was always ready with keen observations on current events (much like his father) and we will miss his sage wisdom and thoughtful advice given with grace and charm (like his mother). We feel blessed to carry him with us moving forward.
