JoAnn Tanner (Frazier) Bishop, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, volunteer, and friend, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 77. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Jim Bishop, her daughter and son-in-law Terry and Mark Schou, two grandchildren Kalen and Matthew Schou, sister and brother-in-law Marie and Frank Tanner, nephew and his wife Tom and Beth Tanner and their children Kristen and Kirk Tanner, and other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Jim Tanner and Charles Tanner, and her baby James Bishop. JoAnn was born November 6, 1939 the daughter of WW “Tom” and Lois Tanner in Douglas, GA. She graduated from Coffee County High School in 1958 where she was voted “Most Athletic” and was a star on the girls’ basketball team. She then moved to Jacksonville, FL to pursue a cosmetology degree and worked as a hairdresser in Jacksonville and St. Augustine before becoming a teacher in 1970. She taught kindergarten at University Christian School from 1970 until retiring in 1992. She also served as the Cheerleading Sponsor from 1977-1982. After retiring, she spent years loving on her family, attending almost every game or sports event her grandchildren participated in, caring for her parents until their deaths in 2006, then joining her husband in the volunteer ranks of Jacksonville. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital for 5 years and at American Red Cross for 10 years. JoAnn was also a member of First Baptist Church serving actively in Outreach ministry for her Sunday School class. After battling many different illnesses over the last 20 years, Jesus took her peacefully to Heaven. JoAnn did not want a memorial service so, in respecting her wishes, there will be a private cemetery service for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may do so by donating to The National Kidney Foundation or The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Words of comfort and memories of JoAnn may be shared on Legacy.com. As a family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all those who have cared for JoAnn in these last months and those who have so faithfully prayed for and visited with her. May God bless you abundantly just as He blessed her. Neptune Society is in charge of her arrangements.
