Joan Marie Wright-Adair, born on November 19, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, was the cherished first daughter of Howard and Irene Pettus and the third of seven siblings. During her educational journey, she attended Jean Baptiste Point DuSable High School, where she crossed paths with Donald Wright Sr. Years later, they united in marriage, and their union blessed them with four wonderful children: Donald Jr., Anthony, Kevin, and LaTanya.
Joan enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career, spanning more than 25 years with the United States Post Office in Chicago, Illinois. It was during this time that she met her beloved husband, John Adair, and they joined their lives in matrimony on July 24, 1982. Their marriage brought her two bonus children, Kevin and Shari. Joan and John, shared a remarkable journey together for over 25 years, marked by love, devotion and countless treasured moments.
Joan was a woman of unwavering faith, deeply devoted to her spiritual journey. She received the sacrament of baptism in April 1990 at Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, Illinois. After relocating to Florida, she found a spiritual home at New Hope Church, where she made a significant impact as the president of the Golden Age Ministry. Throughout her life, Joan remained an active and dedicated member of her church community, despite the passage of time. Her faith was a guiding light in her life.
Joan's love extended to her dear family, her church family and friends who became family. She eagerly anticipated the weekly morning prayer line calls and relished participating in Sunday church services over the phone. Joan had a deep passion for traveling, enjoyed hosting gatherings, possessed a profound knowledge of history and was an exceptional storyteller. She had a special fondness for classic black and white movies and the timeless melodies of Frank Sinatra. Joan was unwavering in her faith and took every opportunity to share her deep spiritual convictions with others. Her culinary delight was found in shrimp and seafood and her preferred color was the serene turquoise. She was known for her straightforward nature; she never shied away from telling the truth, regardless of your readiness to embrace it. Joan was highly meticulous in her expectations and she didn't hesitate to “crack the whip”, to ensure tasks were carried out precisely to her standards.
Joan peacefully departed this earthly realm to be with her Heavenly Father on October 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Irene, her devoted husband, John Adair, her beloved sons, Donald Jr. and Kevin, her dear grandson, Brandon, as well as one sister and four brothers.
