Joan Yvonne Crumpley Davis died peacefully at home on May 11, 2018, just after her 80th birthday. Younger daughter of Joseph Bruck Crumpley and Mamie Helen Porter Crumpley, Joanie was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, but spent the majority of her life living next to her beloved Black Creek in Middleburg, Florida. She learned mainframe computing in the 1960s, leading to a three-decade career at Computer Power, Inc. A lifelong lover of the natural world, she cultivated this appreciation in her twin daughters and spent her retirement painting landscapes and people in natural settings. Her painted palm trees from an Orange Park Art Guild project grace a City Hall electrical box at the corner of Park and Kingsley Avenues.
Throughout her life, she cared for a blue-and-gold macaw and generations of rescued cats and dogs. In the two years prior to her death, she received a terminal cancer diagnosis and lost her home to Hurricane Irma flooding; nevertheless, she persisted in bringing love and joy to many.
She is survived by her twins Candice Lee Davis of Orange Park, Florida, and Rebecca Ann Davis-Nord (Michael Nord) of Columbia, Maryland, as well as her elder sister Mary Gwendolyn Crumpley Snavely (Jim Snavely) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and many loving and supportive extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, her memory may be honored through donations to the following organizations: Clay Humane Society (clayhumane.org), Haven Hospice (beyourhaven.org), and public television and radio station WJCT (wjct.org).
Arrangements by: Neptune Society-Jacksonville (904) 733-4510.
