Jean Taylor Gudis, age 93, born in Morristown, TN, on May 13, 1924, passed away with her family by her side on October 9, 2017, at Allegro Senior Living (Heritage Oaks) in Tallahassee, FL. Jean’s parents were Philip and Annie Taylor, and she had two loving brothers, Hyman and Emanuel Taylor, all of whom predeceased her. Jean grew up in Morristown, TN, where her family founded P. Taylor Shoe Store, which was run by her father and brothers, and was well known to all in the area. Jean graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in psychology and returned to Morristown following graduation to attend to her ailing parents. Jean was married to Bertram Gudis for 64 years. Together they enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with friends and family. Jean was a kind person who gave generously of her time to local Morristown civic organizations such as Junior Reading Circle and the Head Start Program. She also contributed her time to both Hadassah and Temple Beth El Sisterhood in Knoxville. Jean is survived by her children, Stephen Taylor Gudis (Beth Anne Musiker) of Nashville, TN; Patricia Gudis Smith (Chesterfield Smith, Jr.) of Tallahassee, FL, Grandchildren, Chesterfield Smith, III (Elizabeth Beasley Smith) of Tallahassee, FL and Taylor Vivian Smith of Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held at Temple Beth El in Knoxville, TN, on November 12, 2017. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee, FL, (www.bigbendhospice.org).
