Jay Howard Bodurtha

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on October 20, 1952 to Ernest and Virginia Clark Bodurtha, Jay spent much of his youth and early adult years playing baseball as much as possible and earned several awards for pitching no-hit games and a perfect game. He was a life-long Yankees fan, even sneaking a transistor radio and earbud into school so he wouldn’t miss any games.

Jay graduated from Warren Harding High School and then from Norwalk State Technical College with a degree in Data Processing Technology. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He worked for a few data processing companies throughout his life, ending with a long career at a major financial software company.

Always “The Boy” at heart, Jay loved to go to the Disney parks. He enjoyed the special events, fireworks and especially the parades, always saying he wanted a job as one of the toy soldiers.

Jay enjoyed playing golf often, and spent many years as a volunteer assisting in various professional championships. He had amazing recall of virtually every tee box and every green of every course he ever played! He also loved watching U-Conn girls’ basketball and would savor their wins along with his mom.

Jay led a quiet life, never comfortable in the spotlight. He always showed his love for God and his savior Jesus Christ with his generous support for the churches that he belonged to and their ministries.

Jay is survived by his devoted wife Yvonne, his daughter Jenny Williams (David) of Lake Mary, FL, and granddaughter Aubrey, step-sons Christopher Knight of Greensboro, NC, Stephen Knight of Winter Garden, FL, Michael Knight and Timothy Knight, Ocoee, FL, brother Kenny Bodurtha (Donna) of Wallingford, CT, sister Mary Bindner (Robert) of Milford, CT, brother Ernest Bodurtha (Mary) of Stratford, CT, sister Peggy Camp of Shelton, CT, and numerous nephews and nieces and their children.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, step-brother Douglas Walker, and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Camp.

A memorial service will be held at Dayspring Community Church, 2434 Old Dixie Hwy in Apopka, FL, on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Jay would prefer that you make a donation to your favorite charity. His favorites were American Cancer Society, Feed the Children, and local food banks.
