James McClintick, 80, passed peacefully on May 30, 2019 in his family's home in DeBary, FL. He was born on 01/30/1939 in Mogodore, OH. He was a beloved husband, father, Papa, Pop-pop, brother & friend. An avid sports fan, die-hard Ohio State Buckeye, Pharmacist, car enthusiast, lover of southern Gospel music, dessert connoisseur, Civil War buff, tennis player, and most importantly a faithful follower of Christ with a heart to serve.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbra; 4 Children: Bryant and Cindy McClintick, Greg (Maggi) Calder, Ashley (VJ) Zeger; 5 Grandchildren: Justin Zeger, Sydnee, Ian, Simone and Sebastien Calder; sister, Bonnie Cavendish; Brother in law, Michael (Sharon) Wells; several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces & great-nephews; and dear cousins whom he loved. He was predeceased by his parents, Dale & Olma McClintick.
His love of sports began as a Football quarterback at Johnstown H.S., then on to Ohio Northern, where he was a member of Kappa Psi fraternity until graduating in 1961 from Pharmacy School. He served as member of the Ohio National Guard from '61-'65, at which point he moved to Tampa, FL. His nearly 45 years as a pharmacist began with his first position at Taylor's Drug Store in Granville, OH and then continued at Eckerd Drugs in Tampa, FL for 30 years. Upon his arrival in Tampa, he joined the Army Reserves. After his retirement from Eckerd, Jim's pharmacy career continued with CVS for 10 yrs and then, after a second retirement, he moved to a part time position with Wal-Mart in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Murphy, NC, for 3 years. His family had a second home in Blairsville, GA where they enjoyed years of hiking, waterfalls, lasting mountain friendships and holiday family time. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Temple Terrace, FL, where he served as an usher and choir member, was a member of Idlewild Baptist, and most recently a member of Faith Baptist where he faithfully served as a volunteer, near his home in Pasco County. Jim was not only skilled as a Pharmacist, he was an excellent and avid tennis player for decades. He enjoyed Gospel music more than anything, and second to that would be vacation trips to see as many waterfalls as possible in the beautiful mountains of America. A full life of world travel afforded not only meeting new and lifelong friends, but enjoyment of God's beautiful world in Alaska, England, Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and Wales. He donated over 20 gallons of blood during his time in FL, but that was just one means of quantifying how much a of a truly giving person he was. Jim will be greatly missed by the countless people whose lives were impacted by his kindness, humility and gentle, giving heart. Our loss is heaven's gain. A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 6300 Oakley Blvd, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544, on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11:00 am, with visitation at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his honor to the Tin Roof Foundation @ tinroof.org. This organization was founded by Jim & Barbra's dear longtime friends, Al & Charlene Meyer, who are missionaries that minister to the children of Nicaragua.
