A man devoted to his relationship with Jesus, Big Andy lived a life marked by integrity, humility, and unwavering faith. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and kind heart. A proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Navy, he was brought to Jacksonville, Florida during his service, where he built his life, served his community, and made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
For nearly 40 years, he faithfully served the Duval County School Board as a building engineer, taking great pride in his work and the environments he helped maintain for students, staff, and the community. His dedication behind the scenes made a lasting impact on countless lives. His servant’s heart extended far beyond his profession, as he served as a deacon at his church and joyfully taught children’s church, pouring into the next generation with love and truth. He also faithfully served with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief, where he cooked for those in need and was especially known for his banana pudding, a simple act of love that brought comfort and a smile to so many. Whether he was cooking for gatherings and groups at Hilliard, serving meals that brought people together, or quietly volunteering his time week after week to cut the grass at the Baptist Children’s Home, he lived out his faith through action, never seeking recognition but leaving a lasting impression through his kindness, consistency, and unwavering willingness to serve.
Above all, Andy was a devoted family man. He shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jessica Lynn Anderson, who preceded him in death, along with their son, James Alfred Anderson, Jr. (“Little Andy”), his sister, Mary Ann Jerred, and his brother, David Anderson. In time, he was blessed with love again, marrying his cherished wife, Breita, whose kindness and companionship brought him great joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Breita Albertson; his daughters, Erica Anderson Sutek (Scott, Jackson and Griffin), Ellen Anderson Smith (Kevin and Haisley), and Miriam Eskridge Anderson (Jefferson, Jamie (Krystin), Christian (Teagyn), Kammi Lundquist (Carter), James (Kendall), Micah, Levi, Inga, and Gretchen); his 12 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy; his sister, Karin “Sophie” Carter (Mike); as well as beloved cousins, extended family, and many dear friends.
Andy will be remembered for the way he lived his life, with a smile on his face, joy in his heart, and a deep love for Jesus, his family, and his church. He found happiness in the simple things, especially cooking and gathering with those he loved, always making others feel welcome and cared for.
While our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing he is now home with the Lord, reunited with those who went before him.
A home going service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32218. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 AM.
