Hans “OPA” Dieter Haley Sr. of Macclenny, Florida, passed away on February 21, 2017, at his daughter's residence, after a long illness. Mr. Haley was born August 15, 1940, in Cologne, Germany and was preceded in death by parents William Haley Sr and Gertrude Richartz Haley. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the USS Constellation and the USS Forrestal and was a Vietnam Veteran. His education included a BS degree from UNF and he retired from the U.S. Government as an Electronic Engineer. Throughout his life, he bowled on many leagues with the last amongst friends at Phoenix Lanes in Jacksonville, Florida. He had a passion for shrimping and fishing and loved to read. Those left to cherish his memory include his brother William and JoCheryl Haley Jr.; his children Hans and Susan Haley Jr, Christina and Philip Monds, Kora and Gene Gray, Michelle and James Rader, Lesley and Jeff Jones; his grandchildren, PJ, Halie (Trevor), Joshua, Lauren, Andrew, Kristin, Allison, Dylan, Ashlyn; his great grandchildren Kylie, Killian, Lacy, Harper, Whitley, and Kaden. His memories will also be cherished by his step-son Joe Young with Lacy Young and by his long time devoted friend, Bob Reynolds. The family will receive friends and guests in a Memorial Celebration for Hans “OPA” on Sunday February 26, 2017 from 2:00-6:00 PM at the home of Christina and Philip.
