Born in Gloversville, NY. Glenn studied at Fordham University where he met his lifelong best friend Allen Harris and many other inspirational young artists with shared views and dreams. He played a meaningful part of the music scene of that time as the Allen Harris Band manager where he forged his gifts of negotiation and grit. In the late 70’s he moved to Atlanta in search of financial opportunities and to stay close to his daughter Cressida. While in ATL he mastered many skills and was a successful business owner in the entertainment industry. In 1987 Glenn found sobriety that led him on a path of rebirth and enlightenment that he reached for, to his last day. He pursued forgiveness and peace with his children and felt comfort in connecting with his daughter Tami and continued support of Cressida and Glenn III.
In early 2000 he moved to Key West to live a more tropical life where he continued his entertainment business and found a loving and supportive community with Anchors Aweigh.
Over the years Glenn enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for adventure and travel with his son Glenn III, sailing, snow skiing, snorkeling, certified scuba diver in cave, open water instructor and Nitrox. If there was water around, he was getting in it or floating on it.
Celebrated by longtime friends as a mentor, intellect, artist and seeker of greater meaning, Glenn also loved experiencing existence in many cultures. After a visit to Thailand in 2009 he found a life that was fulfilling spiritually and felt “home” in Chiang Mai where he purchased a condo to spend half of each year. He was a founding member of the CH 12 Step Room that brought him great pride to be apart of and see flourishing. Many members have expressed appreciation for his contribution.
Through 1985 – 2000 Glenn was an avid windsurfer, traveling to competitions where he would often place in his age group and enjoyed the community he had with fellow surfers. Always adventurous, after moving to Atlantic Beach in 2020 and being close to water Glenn missed the rush of sailing and decided to learn how to eFoil at the age of 70. He was determined to conquer the feeling of flying which he did, if only a few times before becoming too weak.
He fought cancer and dementia in his own free and unique way and when the time came, he was at peace and ready to move on to the next experience.
Survived by his brothers Mark, Steven, Daniel, Brian and Christian; children, Cressida, Tami and Glenn III; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Joshua, Jackson, Andrew, Ben, Sean, Trevor and Marli and great-grandchild Apollo.
Preceded in death by his Parents Glenn Tanner Sr. and Bonnie Tanner.
The family hopes Glenn’s memory will live on in his stories and shared experiences from his friends all over the world. A private ceremony will be held with his children as he would have wished.
