George Marvin Reteguiz, 76, of Brooklyn, New York, was called home on April 13, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born to the late Jose Angel Reteguiz Lenares and Maria Reteguiz Vidal-Pumarejo of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, he was the cherished younger brother of the late John, Joe, Frank, and Lorraine (Williams) Reteguiz.
A devout Catholic and patriarch, George's memory will be cherished by his loving partner Willie Conn; his daughters Michelle, Kim, and Sara; his esteemed nephew Benjamin (BJ), affectionately considered a son; his treasured grandchildren Meah, Myah, Penelope, Sofia, Daniela, Alejandra, and his ONLY grandson Charles Jr.; his sisters Rose Marie Ramirez, Judy Cutrone, and Sandra Dodds; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, GREAT GREAT nieces and nephews, his adorable grand-dogs Gina, Martin and Chunk and dozens of beloved Godchildren
George was a beacon of generosity and wisdom, known for his humor and his role as a confidant. He brought laughter and joy to family gatherings, imparting his wisdom with both humor and grace. His culinary skills and community involvement made him a beloved figure to many.
Honoring his country, George served with distinction in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electrician's Mate with the VA-72 Blue Hawks Squadron. After his service, he continued to make an impact as the First Hispanic General Branch Manager for Trans-America Occidental Life Insurance and later as the owner of George Reteguiz and Associates. George was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, and was a founding member of the Hispanic American Business Association and the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Jacksonville, FL. His efforts helped establish the World of Nations festival, an enduring legacy in Jacksonville that has been a cultural landmark for over three decades.
George found joy in travel, music, playing the timbales, singing, flea market shopping, creating model trains, gaming, skiing, boating, salsa dancing, and cooking. In his younger days, he played soccer, was on the Navy wrestling team and enjoyed Racquetball and was an avid Golf player. He lived with zest and inspired joy in others.
A traditional Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for George on May 31st, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, located at 601 Airport Center Dr. E., Jacksonville, FL 32218, at 11:00 AM. Following the mass, interment with military honors will be held at Jacksonville National Veterans Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life for George Marvin Reteguiz will commence subsequent to the interment ceremony.
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to George, a man whose life was an embodiment of service, love, family and community. Though we know we will see him again, his absence leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him. George Marvin Reteguiz’s legacy will endure through the lives he touched. His family and friends mourn the loss of a remarkable man. Rest in peace, George.
As George often said when one was about to make an exit, "Never say goodbye to an old man!"
