He was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 11, 1957, to Robert and Margareta Bailey. When he was a child, the family moved to Clearwater, Florida, where he found a passion for sailing. He attended St Petersburg Junior College for 2 years.
The Navy took him to New London, Connecticut where he served as a Hull Tech.
He spent several years at Dwyer Aluminum Mast Company, where he was a boat builder. He was a single father to 2 boys, Andrew and Matthew.
He moved to St Augustine, Florida in 1997 to start his own business, “Bailey Marine” It had the tagline “Teak Blocks to Complete Yachts”.
Frank was happily married to Susan, in April 1998.
After his shop closed, Frank traveled to Thomasville, Georgia and ran “Heart of Dixie Woodcraft” a boutique sawmill. He would build unique, artisan furniture from reclaimed wood. He was a true craftsman. His 25 years there included a relief trip to Haiti to build shelters after the earthquake.
Frank and Susan loved adventure. They took several trips, many of them on a sailboat. He got to see Alaska, Guatemala, and even Bora Bora. Every year they would sail all over the Caribbean. His favorite spot was a beach bar, “The Soggy Dollar”
He will “go home” to Clearwater, Florida to have his ashes spread at sea.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert, his mother, Margareta, and oldest son, Andrew. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Susan, son, Matt, three grandchildren, Emily, Austin, Jayce, his “son by choice”, Kyle, and his sister, Leslie. Frank dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed by all.
