He was born on September 26, 1947, in Pontiac, Michigan and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. Gene loved to cruise the world and indulge in a great meal. He ultimately spent his final days in his beloved paradise home of Daytona Beach, Florida.
Gene graduated from the University of Tennessee with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1970, remaining a lifelong fan of the Volunteers.
He was also a proud Veteran, having completed Navy Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, Rhode Island before serving as a Naval Officer in Key West, Florida for two years. Following his military service, Gene worked as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear and aerospace industries for thirty years.
More than anything, he was a faithful follower of Christ.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia; father, Eugene Sr., grandparents; and many loved ones that he looked forward to reuniting with in Heaven. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 56 years, Paula; his daughter, Staci, and her husband Paul; his son, Travis, and his wife, Sarah; and his grandchildren, Janie, TJ, and Ava.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Mediterranean Condominium Club Room, 2300 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32118. His family will honor his memory at a private ceremony at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery later this month.
In keeping with Gene’s wishes, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Halifax Health – Hospice in lieu of flowers.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds peace in knowing he is now home with the Lord he loved and faithfully served throughout his life. His banter and stories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
