Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Hartt, 83, peacefully passed away on June 19, 2024, in Nocatee (Ponte Vedra), Florida. Born on July 25, 1940, in St. Francis, Maine, the daughter of the late Frank and Kathleen (Pelletier) Hartt. Despite battling a progressive disease in recent years, she faced life's challenges with courage and a smile and maintained her infectious laugh and sense of humor until the end.
Elizabeth's career journey began as a dedicated and meticulous lab technician. Over the next twenty years, she honed her financial expertise while working as an accountant for the city of Willimantic and later worked at the Regional Education Service Center, EASTCONN, where she oversaw and led financial operations.
Elizabeth was passionate about water activities such as kayaking, swimming, and spending time by the water and affectionately referred to her 14-foot-long blue kayak as "the love of my life." She also developed a love for writing poetry and amassed a collection of hundreds of poems, which she would occasionally share with family. Some of her favorites entitled "Dandelion," "Northern Lights Turn Dark," and "I Miss the Tree." Elizabeth loved music, especially the old classics, and we can only imagine her dancing to "Old Time Rock ‘n Roll." She also enjoyed reading books and playing cards, but most of all, she was dedicated to loving and supporting her family.
Elizabeth had a great imagination and a wonderful sense of humor and believed that after her passing she would be at the right hand of God engaging in discussions about Buddhism, quantum physics, and the philosophies of the great Dalai Lama. Her keen wit and humor never failed to brighten the mood of those around her. Her creativity and lightheartedness made her a joy to be around, and her kindness and compassion towards others endeared her to many.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by family and friends and is survived by her children: Beth Ouellette of Westerly, RI, Ellen (Ouellette) van Olden of Nocatee (Ponte Vedra), FL, and Eric Ouellette and his wife Megan (MacFaddin) Ouellette of West Hartford, CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica, Nathan, Nicole, Annabelle, Colette, Emma, and Jacqui; and great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Annalise. Additionally, she is survived by her five siblings: John Hartt of Milford, MA; Ellen Franks of Stevensville, MT; Dave Hartt and his wife, Dot, of Fort Kent; and Tim Hartt and his wife, Jen, of Wallagrass, along with many nieces and nephews whom Betty kept close to her heart. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Peter Hartt and Louis Hartt, a brother-in-law, Bob Franks and her great grandson, Donovan Martinez. The family would like to express their gratitude to Achara Nguyen for the extraordinary care and compassion she showed to our loved one in her final days.
Elizabeth will be honored in a private memorial service on July 28, 2024, at St. Paul's Congregational Church in St. Francis, Maine.
