Edwina Louise (Barry) Williams, fondly known as “Ween” to family and friends, she was the third oldest of five children born to the late Edwin Barry and Savannah Mahamary in Waycross, Georgia on January 7, 1951. She transitioned peacefully from this life, surrounded by her family in Gainesville, FL, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Raised in West Palm Beach, Ween graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1969 and moved to Gainesville to attend college in that same year. She completed an Associates Degree of Nursing at Santa Fe Community College and became a Registered Nurse. In 2009, she retired from nursing after thirty years working at the Malcolm Randall Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. She also attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves Nurse Corps and retired after 26 years of service in both the 301st Field Hospital and the 345th Combat Support Hospital. Edwina was preceded in death by both of her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory: Son—Lieutenant Colonel, Chike T. Williams (Julie), active duty U.S. Army stationed in Brasilia, Brazil; Grandchildren—Mikalah, Benjamin, Selah, Noah, and Eliana Williams; Siblings—Edwin C. Barry, Gainesville, FL, Theophilus Barry (Yolanda), Gainesville, FL, Regenia Barry, West Palm Beach, FL, and Frank R. Barry (Paulette), West Palm Beach, FL as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family and friends will gather at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 4th, for a memorial service to celebrate her life at the family residence located in the Porters Community at 323 SW 5th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida.
