Duane Ted Sahs, 85, passed away on June 23, 2018, surrounded by family in his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Son of Theodore Sahs and Henrietta (Gutke) Sahs, Duane was born August 17, 1932, in Cicero, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jean Sahs. His family moved to Naperville, Illinois, in 1947, where he graduated from Naperville Central High School and North Central College. He served in the United States Army with active duty in Panama. He was an assistant manager at Western Electric in Cicero, Illinois, and later at AT&T in Oakbrook, Illinois. Duane married Elizabeth (Hiltenbrand Hooton) Sahs on March 5, 1965.
Duane was a member of the Moose Lodge in Naperville for many years, coached his sons in Little League, and sponsored his children in Indian Guides/Princesses. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, watching television, birdwatching, reading, singing (usually off-key) and dancing. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jacksonville with his wife. He valued family. He loved to joke around and had a definite penchant for anything chocolate, cracking jokes and requesting chocolate milkshakes even in his last days.
He is survived by his loving wife; their four children, Steven (Lisa) Sahs of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Allen (Karen) Sahs of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, John (Brent) Sahs of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Susan (Luis) Acosta of Jacksonville, Florida; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Rogers, Sara (Michael) Robbins, David (Meg) Sahs, Lanie Sahs, Andrew Sahs, Richard Sahs, Michelle Acosta, Jack Blacksahs, and Madeline Acosta; and four great-grandchildren, Carson Rogers, Tyler Rogers, Samantha Robbins and Abigail Robbins; his brother Paul (Christine) Sahs; and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
