Doris passed away after losing her battle with colon cancer on Wednesday 26, 2024 at 4:00 am and is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph. She was a devoted wife, cousin, friend, career-gal, seamstress, craftsman, entertainer and gardener. They had no children. After their wedding on August 21, 1971, they came to Jacksonville, FL while Joe completed his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, then decided to stay.
As former musicians and entertainers, they assembled a group of performing artists known as the South Pacific Islanders Polynesian Revue that entertained profitably throughout northeast Florida for 35 years. Doris, aka “Kuuipolani”, managed, trained, choreographed, emceed and made all the costumes for the talented male and female group of dancers and musicians. They entertained at private luaus, corporate events and tourists in St. Augustine. During her daytime hours, the highlights of her working career were her ten years as a Construction News Reporter for McGrawHill/Dodge and another nine years as a Marketing Director and Landscape Designer in the interior plantscape industry. As a true Sagittarian, she had great leadership and often unconventional problem solving skills that lead to her success at whatever she decided to do, but always with grace and class. Once retired, she spent her down time with her best friend, Joe, and tended to her lush, tropical garden often admired by the neighborhood passers-by.
Per her wishes, her remains will be cremated and there will be no funeral services.
