The family of Denovan Jones mourn his passing at the age of 92 on April 24, 2019 in Yulee, Fl. He will be remembered by family, friends and co-workers for his many talents. During his lifetime he wore many hats and influenced and touched many lives.
Denovan was born on March 24, 1927 in Huntington, NY and spent his early years in Syosset, New York. At the age of 15 he met Helen Donovan who six years later became his wife on September 18, 1948. This long and loving marriage came to include 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
His career began in New York City at Meyers Strong and Jones and continued at Grumman Corporation in Bethpage, New York. He retired from Grumman in 1979 then continued his career at Gulfstream in Savannah, Georgia. He was proud to have been a part of projects that included the E2C, the F-14, the Lunar Module Program and finally the Gulfstream jet.
He will be remembered for his love of sailing and his three boats: The Pam, Rip Tide and Compromise. He and his family enjoyed many years of sailing. His other interests included wood working, home projects and working on cars. He was always willing to lend a hand or a tool to get the project done.
Throughout his life Denovan committed his time and talents to both the church and civic organizations. He was a committed volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, The Dolphin Project and the homeowners associations in his communities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and David. He is survived by his wife Helen, sister Jessie, his five children Denovan, Kenneth, Pamela, Wendy and Cindy. Grandchildren Jessica, Zachariah, Hans, Jillian, Ryan, Sean, Kaitlin, Olivia and Andrea. Great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Shawn, Nicholas, Denovan, Sigge, Euan, Adlynn, Thao, Lochlan, Sebastian and Jackson and great-great-granddaughter Briella.
A memorial service is being planned for later this Spring at a time and place to be announced. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association.
