Born on October 12, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Harry Clay and Dorothy Neill, Cyndi embodied the strength and resilience of a true Texan. As the daughter of an Army serviceman, her childhood was enriched by travel, including a memorable time in Japan. These formative experiences nurtured her adventurous spirit and love for learning, which she carried throughout her life.
Cyndi was a devoted wife to her husband, Alan, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. She cherished her family deeply and found immense joy in the lives of her daughters, grandchildren, and her first great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her loving husband Alan; her youngest daughter Amber and son-in-law Ryan and their son Barrett; grandchildren from her daughter Julie-Katie, Maison, and Daniel and his wife Annie and their precious daughter (her first great grandchild) Sadie Fay. She also leaves behind her brother Clay; sisters Debbie, Jan, and Merry (Kevin); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were also family.
Cyndi is now reunited with her beloved daughter Julie; her parents; brothers Joe Melvin “Bo” and Ronnie; and other dear family members and friends who preceded her in passing.
A dedicated Registered Nurse, Cyndi’s career spanned decades and touched countless lives. From her early work in mental health to her impactful roles in emergency care, labor and delivery, and critical care at a community hospital in Pinckneyville, Illinois, she was known for her compassion and skill. After moving to Florida, she continued her healthcare journey at Florida Blue, retiring in December 2009 after nearly 20 years of service.
In retirement, Cyndi embraced her passions for quilting, needlepoint, reading, and traveling with her husband in their camper, always accompanied by their beloved Chihuahuas (Sophie and Fancy). A master quilter, her creations were stitched with love and treasured by all who received them.
Cyndi and Alan are devoted parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandarin. Her faith was central to her life, and she found joy as a member of the Marian Servants of the Blessed Sacrament.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Historic Church, 4214 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. A luncheon will be served afterward in The Cody Center.
