Their story began on a school bus, where Charles would shoot spitballs at Loretta just to get her attention. He always said there was something different about her, and by their second date, he already knew she was the woman he wanted to be the mother of his children.
During their early days together, Loretta would bring Charles delicious homemade biscuits. He thought he had found a woman who could cook, only to discover later that it was actually her mother making them! Thankfully, by then, he was already in love.
On August 18, 1962, they married and began building a beautiful life together. They were blessed with four children: Sarah McTyre, Karen (Kenneth) Johns, Deborah Sorells, and Charles McTyre Jr.
Their love grew into a family of eight grandchildren: Linda Rowback, Erica Viruet, Freddy (Natalie) Viruet, Christy McTyre, Cirena (Andy) Shackleford, Stephanie McTyre, Devin (Emily) McTyre, and Zane Sorrels; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Miranda, Caden, Briana, Aaron, Malcom, Briauna, Brendon, Kamden, Serinity, Emma, Finn, Ethan, and Addy.
Granny and PawPaw lived a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, RV trips to the mountains, camping at Rodman and Ocean Pond, and countless family memories. Their home was always a gathering place, where children and grandchildren knew they were welcome and loved.
They showed their family what marriage was truly meant to be — for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. They loved each other unconditionally and spent their lives loving the family they created.
Loretta passed away on October 24, 2025, and Charles followed on October 5, 2026. After sharing more than 63 years of marriage, their earthly love story came to an end, but the love they built will live on for generations.
What started with spitballs on a school bus became a lifetime of love, four children, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a million beautiful memories.
Together in life, forever together in our hearts.
