She was born November 5, 1934, in Huntington, WV, to Hugh Deming Stillman and Elizabeth Gwinn Stillman. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College and went on to take a dream job traveling all over the United States surveying homemakers about the products of Proctor & Gamble. She felt that her job with P&G was made for her; she was being paid to travel and to talk! When she left her job, it was to go to Atlanta, GA to live with her sister, Nancy Stillman. Nancy was working at Rich’s Department Store and helped Caroline get a job with Rich’s. She worked in the Women’s Clothing department and loved helping ladies find what they were looking for. Rich’s is where she met the love of her life, Robert Graham Covin who was a weekend floor manager. They married November 10, 1962 and were married 51 years at the time of his death in 2014.
Over the years, Caroline devoted most of her time caring for her family including volunteering in her children’s classrooms. She was also very involved with church serving on the Altar Guilds at both St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, GA and Christ Church, Frederica in St. Simons Island, GA.
When her children weren’t as dependent on her, Caroline went to work for a local active wear small business using her extensive sewing skills to make beautiful appliqued skirts. Later, she worked in a local yarn shop where she not only managed the store but taught people to knit. Her family members were the beneficiaries of her sewing and knitting skills as well.
Caroline and Robert moved to St. Simons Island, GA in 1993 and enjoyed living in the beautiful family favorite vacation destination for many years. In 2007, they moved to Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, FL and enjoyed being with their many friends there.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Covin Lankford (Dennis) and her son Robert Graham Covin, Jr. (Stacy); seven granddaughters: Rachel Covin McFadden (Micah), Rebecca Covin, Chloé Covin Justiniano (Fernando), Alyssa Teel, Gwinn Lankford, Talley Moncrief and Molly Moncrief. Her family has many sweet memories of Caroline and cherishes the years they had with her.
A service in celebration of Caroline’s life will take place Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:00 am in Johnson Hall at Fleet Landing, 1 Fleet Landing Blvd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fleet Landing Endowment Fund or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
