Carl Howard Marable, 94, of Jacksonville, passed away on March 24, 2025. Born in Norfolk VA, July 19, 1930, he was the sixth of eight children born to Wilson H. and Antone Nettie Marable. He was the last survivor of the eight, preceded by Charles, Dorothy, Francis, Wilson Jr “Billy”, James, Robert “Googie” and Carolyn. He was a U.S. Army veteran, 1952-54, serving in Korea.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vivian Marable, giving him two step children (as he never had kids of his own), Al Moutrey and Lori Stilley, a grandson, 2 granddaughters, a total of 21 great and great-great grandchildren, 29 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces/nephews. He was adored and respected by them all.
He enjoyed spending time working with puzzles, anything hot air balloon related and football, especially his Washington Redskins and later, the Jacksonville Jaguars and was a season ticket holder to their home games, often taking friends and those close to him along to enjoy. He also found relaxation in coloring pictures and always had his pencils close by.
He worked many years in paint sales for companies like Ace Hardware and Brinton Paint Company. There were no strangers in Carl’s life, just friends he hadn’t met yet. He was known to greet those he knew with a joke. He was also a member of the Florida Bopper Association.
He was cremated Friday, April 4, 2025. His ashes will be returned to his beloved home state of Virginia to be scattered in several of his favorite locations. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on May 4, 2025 at the Moose Lodge, located at 5051 Collins Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32244.
