Bruce Swindell, born December 1, 1954, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and a man who dedicated much of his life to serving others and his community.
Bruce proudly served 21 years in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that reflected his dedication, discipline, commitment, and love of country. His military service was an important part of who he was and helped shape the values he carried throughout the rest of his life.
Following his military career, Bruce brought his leadership, knowledge, and passion for technology to the National Football League, where he spent more than 19 years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. During his distinguished career with the Jaguars, Bruce served as Vice President of Technology, helping lead the organization's technology efforts through years of growth and change. His work behind the scenes played an important role in the success and evolution of the organization he proudly served for more than two decades.
While Bruce accomplished much professionally, his greatest source of pride was always his family.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Jane Swindell; his son, Wade Swindell, and his wife, Katherine Swindell; and his daughter, Erica Swindell, and her wife, Dawn Proulx Swindell. He was a proud grandfather to Mackenzie, Lincoln, and Logan Swindell, children of Wade and Katherine, and Christian Swindell, son of Erica and Dawn.
He is also survived by his mother, Gloria Shiveler, and his siblings, Greg Swindell, Norman Swindell Jr., Jason Shiveler, and Danielle Shiveler, along with extended family members and countless friends and colleagues whose lives were touched by him.
Bruce's life was one of service, leadership, hard work, and dedication. From serving his country in the United States Navy to helping build and support the technology infrastructure of an NFL organization, he gave his time and talents to the things he believed in. Yet, beyond every professional accomplishment, title, or achievement, Bruce's greatest legacy will always be the family he loved.
To his wife, children, grandchildren, mother, siblings, and those closest to him, Bruce was so much more than his career accomplishments. He was a husband, dad, Poppa, son, brother, and friend. The memories created around family gatherings, conversations, laughter, celebrations, and everyday moments will be treasured forever.
His influence will continue through the people he loved, the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the example he left behind. Though his absence will be deeply felt, the love and memories he gave his family will never fade.
