A devoted and loving daughter, Alyssa was born in Washington, DC to Paul C. and the late Madeline R. Turkeltaub of Potomac, Maryland.
She was the loving wife of Robert Smilowitz and mother of Bradley and Justin Smilowitz.
Alyssa graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 1989 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Drexel University in 1993. She also minored in Business. She was devoted to her career and spent the past 21 years at Herman Miller where she was certified in EDAC (Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification). She achieved water carrier status, which is the title they give to those employees who have been with the company for over 20 years.
Alyssa was a great athlete and exercised every day. When she was younger she was an aerobics instructor and in college she would host free aerobics classes for her sorority sisters and neighbors in her building. She also had a great sense of humor and was easily moved to laugh. Her two favorite movies were 50 First Dates, a movie about a girl with brain damage, and Blended, a movie about a man who lost his wife to cancer. Go figure.
In addition to her father, husband, and children, Alyssa is survived by her brother, Seth Turkeltaub (Gail) of Riverside, Connecticut and his children Kate, Payton, and Jack. She is also survived by Robert’s parents, Leonard and Maxine Smilowitz; her Aunt Fran Varady (Roger); and her Aunt Claire Ahren; as well as countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donations may be made in Alyssa’s memory to the Brain Tumor Network, 816 A1A North, Suite 201, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. Hopefully they find a cure to this terrible disease.
